Yankees 8, Rangers 6

The Rangers let one slip away today. They had a 4-run lead and starting pitcher Brandon McCarthey was pitching well until the 5th inning. The Yankees put 5 on the board in the bottom half of the 5th as McCarthey's performance fell apart. Ian Kinsler hit a solo home run in the 6th to tie the game back up, but it wasn't enough. The Yankees scored 2 more runs on a Melky Cabrera home run in the 8th off Texas reliever C.J. Wilson.

I've been hard on C.J. Wilson in the past, mainly because of his failure as a closer. But, he seems to be settling in to the middle-reliever role pretty well. The home run he gave up today just barely cleared the fence and would not have been a homer in most major league parks. I'm not ready to give up on C.J. just yet.
The Rangers will now travel to Boston to play a three game weekend series at Fenway against the Red Sox. Texas will send their ace, Kevin Millwood (4-4, 3.23 ERA), to the mound on Friday evening as Boston will throw right-hander Brad Penny (5-1, 5.63 ERA). Game time is 6:05.
